With summertime approaching, I am getting more and more excited about all of my upcoming family beach sessions. There is no better way to celebrate the closeness of family then to get together at your favorite Jersey Shore beach and do a beautiful golden hour photo session together. The memories captured are priceless and irreplaceable.
I worked with this gorgeous family for their extended family beach photo session in the Long Beach Island shore area of New Jersey. Long Beach Island is a special shore point for them, so it was important to incorporate this location into their session.
They were also celebrating their mom’s (grandma’s) milestone birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with photos of everyone at their happy place!

When doing extended families, my main goal (other than capturing the beautiful connections between family members) is to get variety in my images. I will photograph the entire family as a group, both posed and candid, but I will also photograph each family individually as well as other groupings. Grandparents with their grandchildren is always a go to and also just capturing the children as well.
I love having a wide variety of groupings, and getting some posed/some candid shots for each specific grouping during the session.

I always wrap up my beach sessions near the water, when the sun is almost setting and we get that gorgeous golden light. The warmth of the sunlight against the cool tones of the water is just such a beautiful color combo for photos. And, if you’re lucky you may even get some cotton candy colored skies in there too! I love having some fun with the family by the water and of course getting some fun candid shots of the children happily playing in the ocean.

After doing some photos close to the water, I also like to pivot around and capture that bold, golden sunlight behind my subject and just get them to frolic around in the sand, and just have fun with each other and create these playful moments. I love the way the sun and skies just POP in these images taken at golden hour at the beautiful Jersey Shore.

We ended the session with a little bubbly to celebrate a milestone birthday in the family. I really enjoy capturing these type of candid moments between the family, coming together to commemorate the matriarch of the family.
